The YMCA’s rich history is rooted in its commitment to bettering the lives of children, families, and all others in the neighborhoods and towns of the region. As home to America’s first YMCA, the city of Boston boasts one of the largest urban Y’s in the nation, and is as committed to continuously improving its facilities as it is to the community.

When the organization’s East Boston location decided to embark on a total renovation of the fitness area, no stone was left unturned – and that meant choosing an optimal flooring solution to replace the short-lived carpet product. With numerous treadmills and cardio machines, heavy weights and strength training equipment, the flooring would need to resist surface indentations. It would also need to be shock absorbent and moisture resistant.

The facility’s Health and Wellness Director, Daniela Galdo, selected Spectation™ rubber flooring tiles by Mats Inc. for its long lasting durability, hygienic properties and easy maintenance.

The hammered finish and multicolored speckle design of Spectation™ provided a classic look for the fitness area, and the flooring has been well received by staff and members alike since its January 2011 installation.
