In 2012, with a move towards improved employee health and wellness, the architectural and design firm of Perkins + Will was charged with designing a 24-Hour Corporate Wellness Center in Chicago, Illinois.  Direction for the Center’s design was to create a modern environment with the feel and features of an upscale metropolitan fitness center.

Angela VanMastrigt, Associate at Perkins + Will, introduced a clean and contemporary design using a backdrop of neutral colors and strategically placed blue and green elements.  The heavy-duty rubber flooring was well suited for the fitness equipment area where she also incorporated the latest technology and equipment.

She had initially planned to extend the rubber flooring from the cardio and weight areas out into the entrance and lobby areas, but reconsidered when she determined that the space should be a more alluring and inviting and less industrial looking.  Carpet tiles would create a warm and welcoming reception, but she intended to present a longer-lasting product that would be able accommodate the heavy foot traffic at the entranceway and with low maintenance requirements.  Ms. VanMastrigt chose Floorworks® luxury vinyl flooring from Mats Inc. for its authentic wood look, durability, and ease of maintenance.   To create the comfortable reception envisioned, she selected the color Sterling from the Floorworks® Planks Strip Wood Collection.
