Mats Inc. Releases EPD for PURline Flooring Posted: Jun 2014 Posted by: Mats Inc.

We have issued our first Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for its new PURline organic flooring.

An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is an internationally-accepted disclosure of the environmental impacts of a product from raw material sourcing to end of life disposal. Verified by an independent third party, the results included in the EPD are validated and objective facts regarding product and manufacturing processes.

The PURline resilient organic flooring EPD was developed from a Cradle to Grave lifecycle assessment conducted by Gemeinschaft umweltfreundlicher Teppichboden (GUT) e.V. and verified by the independent third-party committee at the Institut Bauen und Umwelt (IBU) e.V. conforming to ISO 14025 and EN 15804 standards. The declaration reports raw materials and the manufacturing process of the PURline product and also takes into account transportation of materials, energy expenditures, packaging and waste components for a comprehensive analysis.

“We have been working with our partners to develop EPDs and HPDs for all of our products,” stated Scott Robichaud, President and CEO of Mats Inc. “It is an extensive process and we are pleased that we are finally able to provide a thorough overview of the product’s environmental impacts to enable our customers to make more informed decisions.”

In February 2014, Mats Inc. and Windmöller Flooring Products GmbH partnered to deliver PURline, a new class of flooring for commercial environments under the wineo® umbrella brand of flooring. PURline is the first botanol, plantbased flooring product on the market, produced from nearly 90% rapidly renewable and natural raw materials including rapaseed, castor oil and the natural filler material chalk. Affording unparalleled environmental and sustainable benefits over its service life, PURline meets the highest standards for health indoor environments and is GreenGuard Gold certified.

This is our first EPD to be released by the company. Additional Environmental Product Declarations are in process for Mats Inc.’s extensive product offerings. The company anticipates a 90% registration rate for its commercial matting and flooring lines prior to the implementation of the mandatory LEED v4 Green Building Program in June 2015 with additional registrations to follow.
