Craft Beer and the American Dream Posted: Mar 2019 Posted by: Mats Inc.

Four micro-brewers in East Weymouth, Massachusetts are realizing their dream.

After three years overcoming many obstacles, Vitamin Sea Brewery finally opened their first production house and taproom on Saturday, February 9, 2019.

Dino and his partners Peter Kiley, Joshua Sherman, and Richard DiBona have been home-brewing stouts and IPAs for years and they have built a substantial following of friends and craft beer connoisseurs all the while.

“A few years ago we said, ‘Let’s chase the dream and see what happens,’” said owner Dino Funari.

If you think three years sounds like a long time, you’d be right. For Dino and the other owners each step closer came new hurdles; from federal Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau and state permits and a malt farmer brewery pouring license, to finding a location, building permits and nearly a year of construction.

They were originally planning to open in September. “The process took some time,” Dino said. “It’s long overdue.”

The highly anticipated 10 barrel brewhouse was scheduled to open for their first Saturday at noon but people started showing up at 7:30 AM and they sold through more than 100 cases of beer to what seemed like an endless line of patrons.

The taproom has a contemporary German beer hall ambience with authentic bench-style seating directly from Munich’s Oktoberfest, warm lighting, nautical design elements and – easy-to-install x-core ascend wall planks. So easy, the owners installed it themselves!

“We brew beer, we don’t build things,” joked Dino.

Next for Vitamin Sea are plans for commercial sales to select draft accounts around the South Shore and Boston, a busy spring and summer event schedule, and eventually adding Friday taproom hours.
